Each year, Yeti marks the holiday season by unveiling its Gear Garage event, a limited-time sale featuring exclusive color options across its lineup of coolers, drinkware, and outdoor gear.

The now annual tradition is a hotly anticipated tradition for fans for good reason: this year’s selection was stuffed with plenty of compelling standout products for brand collectors and diehards, including a new limited Blue Camo color, a first-ever neon “Solar Flare” color option and even a collaborative blanket with Pendleton.

But buried beneath these headline-grabbing limited editions is another unique offering that’s almost guaranteed to go down as one of Yeti’s most divisive releases this year, at least if the past is any indication.

Back to black

After introducing an all-black version of the Tundra 45 last year, Yeti has now brought the stealthy color to its most affordable and compact hard cooler, at least for a limited time. While the look is sharp, many fans online have worried about how the black color absorbs additional heat when placed in direct sunlight. According to some, it also shows scrapes and scratches more clearly compared to other color options.

Yeti’s Tundra hard coolers have flirted with darker palettes for years — navy and dark grey have been fixtures, and black has long anchored the Rambler drinkware and Hopper soft coolers. Still, the absence of a true black Tundra lingered as the most obvious gap in the lineup, a color fans kept insisting was overdue.

When Yeti finally unveiled a black Tundra 45 during its 2024 Gear Garage event, the move felt like wish fulfillment. The reaction, however, didn’t follow the script.

Plenty of fans on Reddit and elsewhere praised the clean, stealthy look, but a parallel wave of skepticism quickly formed, stoking a recurring debate over whether the long-requested shade was actually a good idea in practice.

Some pragmatists remarked about the obvious heat retention issues an all-black color could introduce, which seemed counterproductive to the point of owning a premium cooler – a fear which at least one YouTube gear reviewer, Outdoor Empire, has validated through testing of other cooler brands.

Other owners also commented, seemingly from experience, about how the dark color also showed every minor scuff and scratch.

Yet none of these gripes prevented the limited Black Tundra 45 from selling out easily, which is probably all the justification Yeti needed to use the color again.

As part of this year’s 2025 Gear Garage event, Yeti has introduced an all-black version of its most affordable hard cooler, the Roadie 15, which was first launched in 2024.

The Roadie 15 is the most affordable Yeti hard cooler because it’s also the smallest hard cooler, serving as the spiritual successor to the beloved Yeti Roadie 20, which some fans affectionately referred to as the Cyclops due to its single-latch design.

Pricing and availability

Despite its limited and exclusive color, the Black Yeti Roadie 15 Hard Cooler retails for $200, just like every other color option.

As per usual with limited Yeti color runs, there’s no upcharge for the Black Yeti Roadie 15 Hard Cooler. It’s currently available through Yeti.com and in select Yeti stores for the not-so-cheap price of $200.

Given the limited-edition nature of the Gear Garage releases and the history of demand for black Yeti products, we expect the stock of the limited Roadie to sell out quickly.

And just like its Tundra 45 predecessor, we expect it to become a topic of both envy and finger-wagging among Yeti collectors for years to come.
