Hoka is a running brand. Or, that was the idea.

Founded in 2009, the company started with a simple premise: make a better shoe for downhill trails.

But you don’t move $2 billion in sales every year without casting a wide net.

As it turns out, Hoka’s formula of cushion minus weight appeals to pretty much everybody, including nurses, line cooks or any professional who spends most of the work week on their feet.

So it should come as little surprise to see the brand service those demographics directly, as it’s done with the upcoming Arahi SR.

Easy sell

Built off the platform of the Arahi 8, the new silhouette also prioritizes stability with Hoka’s H-frame, a system that debuted on the Gaviota.

In layman’s terms, it places firm foam around the perimeter of shoe, rather than one side, which offers targeted support on both the medial and lateral sides of the foot.

That’s where the similarities end.

Short for “slip resistant,” the Arahi SR comes equipped with an extra tacky outsole that covers the entire base of the shoe.

The tradeoff is some extra weight, as the shoe is nearly 35 percent heavier than the Arahi 8. However, it’s a worthy one for wearers who need dependable traction in the workplace.

The shoe also features a PFAS-free water-repellent coating, speed laces and, arguably its best attribute, a heel flex (akin to Kizik or Nike EasyOn) that allows for a seamless step-in experience.
