Flint and Tinder Made a Strong Case for the Best Waxed Canvas Jacket Brand in 2025. Here’s Proof

Watch out, Filson and Barbour.

British brands have long reigned supreme in the world of waxed canvas. Barbour, Belstaff, and the lesser-known Peregrine have made some of the best examples for generations.

But an American brand made a strong push to outperform them all in 2025, and — I know what you’re probably thinking — it’s not Filson.

As excellent as the Seattle-based outfitter is, a far younger brand broke into the top tier of the waxy ranks by offering a wide variety and impressive affordability. Flint and Tinder, the flagship in-house brand of online retailer Huckberry, expanded its catalog in 2025 to become one of the most robust purveyors of the weather-resistant textile.

Along with adding three distinct new models to its permanent collection, the Austin-based label kept its two most popular jackets fresh with one of the coolest camos I came across all year.

The Waxed Trucker remains the brand’s marquee product, both in outerwear and beyond. But from the Barbour-inspired Hudson Jacket to the Carhartt-beating Waxed Mill Jacket, the brand has something for everyone, and it is all of impeccable quality.

Made in LA … and Indonesia

Part of the allure around Flint and Tinder’s Waxed Trucker is that it is made in Los Angeles from a waxed cotton milled in New Jersey, which hasn’t changed. But the brand’s paraffin-impregnated lineup has outgrown that production model.

To meet the new demand, the brand now sources fabric from Scotland’s Halley Stevensons — one of the most respected names in the business — and its new jackets are cut and sewn in Indonesia. Unfortunately, that’s just the reality of America’s limited textile industry.

The waxed canvas collection

Not only did Flint and Tinder expand its waxed canvas outerwear lineup in 2025, but the new models are some of the best the brand has ever offered. Here are the five best waxed canvas jackets, plus one notable companion piece.

The cult favorite gets better

The internet is awash with praise for Flint and Tinder’s Waxed Trucker, so I’ll skip the platitudes. Despite the cult-following, the brand still managed to improve its most popular product with a unique, coastal-inspired camouflage from Halley Stevensons.

The Sea Kelp Camo collection also included the Hudson Jacket, a tote bag and a five-panel hat — which is now sold out.

One piece of advice, however, is that the blanket-lined version is the far superior option.

The ultimate daily jacket

My personal favorite Flint and Tinder waxed canvas jacket collection is the James Waxed Snap Jacket, which was introduced in September 2025. It is an innovation on the classic coach’s jacket, traditionally made with nylon or polyester satin.

The waxed canvas shell is an obvious upgrade, and it has a cotton canvas lining, rather than the synthetic flannel used in the brand’s other jackets. My favorite feature is the vented breast pocket, which is my go-to spot to stash sunglasses and small EDC items.

The workwear staple, one-upped

Flint and Tinder’s newest addition is The Waxed Mill Jacket, an obvious take on Carhartt’s legendary Detroit Jacket. While this is far from the first piece of outerwear it has inspired, it is one of the few that has made noticeable improvements.

Along with the waxed canvas offering more weather resistance than the untreated canvas of the original, the Mill Jacket has a quilted satin lining packed with insulation. It also adds corduroy to the cuffs and has a slightly longer body.

The golf jacket upgrade

The inspiration for this jacket was so apparent that Flint and Tinder’s design team didn’t even bother coming up with a new name. As advertised, it is a classic Harrington jacket of the open-waist and snap-cuff variety, built with waxed canvas.

It adds a rugged edge to the original golf jacket, making it more suitable for everyday wear. It is reminiscent of the collaborations between Barbour and Baracutta, but costs half as much.

The weather-resistant workhorse

The Hudson Jacket has been around for a while, and the design was updated in late 2024 to include a detachable hood. The barn jacket design is one of the best Barbour alternatives available, especially with its hood.

With ample cargo space and extended coverage, it is Flint and Tinder’s most versatile waxed canvas jacket.

The kitchen essential

Alright, so it’s not a jacket, but the Waxed Apron is a perfect home accessory for any fan of waxed canvas. Whether you’re tinkering in the garage or doing work in the kitchen, it applies the fabric’s renowned protection and durability indoors.

Fortunately, Huckberry has recently restocked the Waxed Apron after a long absence.
