Sometimes, a few little words can make all the difference: “Made in Germany.”

Adidas’s answer to New Balance’s “Made in USA” program dials in on archival models, each fabricated to exacting standards in Scheinfeld, Germany.

The upcoming ZX 8000 “Made in Germany” is no exception.

First released in the late 1980s, the ZX 8000 was the first to feature the brand’s Torsion technology, meaning the forefoot and heel could move independently.

However, that’s far from the model’s only claim to fame.

Decades later, collectors and historians remember the ZX 8000 for its crossover appeal: the shoe was a fixture within Berlin’s underground rave scene at the end of Cold War, becoming a symbol of freedom and self-expression.

Like other releases in the “Made in Germany” series, this one features upgraded materials absent from the mainline models.

The upcoming ZX 8000 features premium suede and nubuck overlays, with a yellow EVA midsole that gives the technical silhouette a touch of vintage aura.

Availability and pricing

The ZX 8000 “Made in Germany” will be available soon, first from overseas retailers like Overkill before releasing on Adidas’s official website. It costs 168 euros (approximately $195).
