In May 2025, Marantz introduced two reference-grade home theater components: the AV 20 preamplifier and processor and the AMP 30 power amplifier. Together, they deliver a 13.4-channel surround system capable of 200 watts per channel (for 12 channels). The pair costs $12,000 (or $6,000 per component).

Fast forward to today, and the renowned Japanese hi-fi manufacturer is introducing the AMP 30 and the AV 30, which are essentially scaled-down versions of the brand’s AMP 20 and AV 20.

They’re still designed for serious home theater enthusiasts, but at a more affordable (but still not insignificant) price.

An amplifier/preamplifier combo

Like those predecessors, the AMP 30 and the AV 30 is a modular pair consisting of a power amplifier and an AV preamplifier that are designed to work together. The AMP 30 power amplifier drives the speakers, while the AV 30 handles all the connections and processing.

The pair is capable of driving an 11.4-channel home theater system.

The Marantz AMP 30 is the smaller of the two. It’s a 6-channel power amplifier capable of driving 200 watts per channel.

The AV 30 AV preamplifier is the more versatile of the two components. It features the latest and most powerful dual-core DSP chipset (Analog Devices SHARC) and two high-quality 32-bit DACs, enabling it to support most of the latest surround sound technologies, such as Dolby Atmos, IMAX Enhanced, DTS:X and AURO-3D.

It’s capable with the latest and greatest TVs, with seven HDMI inputs, each of which supports up to 8K (at 60Hz) or 4K (at 120Hz) video. It can work with numerous speaker configurations (up to 11.4 channels) as well as advanced room optimization with Audyssey and optional Dirac Live.

Additionally, this preamplifier is HEOS-powered with built-in Wi-Fi, supports high-resolution audio (AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect), and integrates with larger multi-room audio systems.

A versatile, flexible system

The AMP 30 is the most straightforward of the two. It’s a 6-channel power amplifier that’s capable of driving 200 watts per channel, which is sufficient enough to drive multiple different speaker configurations and speaker layouts.

It’s also flexible with bi-amping or bridged outputs. According to the brand, it “provides the option of reconfiguring pairs of 200-watt amp channels into bridged-tied-load (BTL) outputs, with up to a maximum of three channels of 400-watts available.” Its bi-amp mode supports up to three speakers as well.

Both components feature a similar luxurious design, including the portable display, to the brand’s higher-end options.

Both the AV 30 and the AMP 30 are built to match Marantz’s higher-end home theater components, with an integrated porthole display and luxurious industrial design.

Marantz claims that the elegant fascia plates on both models feature selectable side illumination, “with a fold-down front panel on the AV 30 to conceal all less-used functions when not in use, creating a clean aesthetic not typically associated with AV components.”
