Sonus faber introduced its Olympica range of loudspeakers over a decade ago, and today it sits in the upper mid-tier of its offerings. Each speaker is beautifully handcrafted in Italy and designed to deliver exceptional sound. (These speakers cost more than some cars, after all.)

As of today, the Italian luxury audio maker has introduced the third generation of its Olympica range, upgrading its design and acoustics and integrating it with technologies derived from its flagship Suprema loudspeaker system, which can cost $850,000.

Sonus faber claims the Olympica G3 range reimagines one of its “most celebrated loudspeaker families for a new generation of discerning listeners, bringing together contemporary luxury, advanced acoustic engineering, and timeless Italian craftsmanship.”

The reimagined Olympica range, officially named the Olympica G3, comprises five loudspeaker models: one bookshelf, two floorstanders, a center channel and a slim on-wall speaker. And it can accommodate both stereo and home theater configurations.

Sonus faber claims that each Olympica G3 loudspeaker preserves its unmistakable asymmetrical lute-shaped silhouette, but “introduces a series of thoughtful refinements that elevate both form and function.” This includes a striking 45-degree herringbone handcrafted authentic wood veneer that’s inspired by the brand’s Stradivari floorstanding loudspeaker.

Trickle-down flagship technologies

Beneath the surface, the Olympica G3 range draws on several innovations developed for the brand’s flagship Suprema loudspeakers. The standout among these is the Camelia midrange driver, which features a distinctive design inspired by the camellia flower.

According to the brand, this advanced transducer design “helps minimize unwanted resonance while delivering exceptional clarity, transparency, and vocal realism.”

Additionally, the Olympica G3 range has been updated with its proprietary driver chassis design, called the Organic Basket, which is also utilized by the Suprema loudspeaker range. Sonus faber claims this honeycomb-pattern design has been “engineered to maximize airflow while providing exceptional mechanical stability.”

The two floorstanding models in the range, the Olympica III and the flagship Olympica V, also incorporate cork as a damping material in the mid-high acoustic chamber. This is designed to further help minimize unwanted resonances and, according to the brand, results “in greater resolution, tonal purity, and lifelike realism.”

Five loudspeaker models

As for the five loudspeakers in the Olympica G3, here’s a quick breakdown:

The Olympica I is a compact 2-way bookshelf loudspeaker that, according to the brand, “brings the signature Olympica sound to smaller rooms while preserving exceptional imaging, clarity and emotional engagement.”

The two floorstanding models, the Olympica III and flagship Olympica V, have a three-way design, but the latter is the larger model and adds a third woofer.

Sonus faber claims the Olympica III “balances musicality, detail, and room-friendly proportions for a wide variety of spaces,” while the Olympica V delivers an “expansive scale, powerful dynamics, and full-range performance for dedicated listening environments.”

For home theater applications, the Olympica Center is a dedicated 3-way center channel loudspeaker, and the Olympica Wall is the range’s slim 2-way on-wall loudspeaker.
