The bane of every runner: a radical update to a beloved shoe model.

Fortunately for fans of the Mach 6, its successor stays true to the formula that made it one of Hoka’s most popular daily trainers.

The upcoming Hoka Mach 7 is the brand’s next plateless training shoe, optimized for everyday miles and uptempo efforts, alike.

Marginal gains

Like the previous generation, the Mach 7 boasts a supercritical midsole fashioned out of EVA, featuring the same stack height (37mm) and drop (5mm).

That means, of course, that Hoka opted to bypass ATPU or other on-trend foams — a decision likely to disappoint runners on the forefoot of innovation.

However, if the Mach 6 proved anything, it’s that EVA remains dependably well-rounded in the modern era (especially in supercritical form), bringing versatility and durability into a lightweight package.

The Mach 7 clocks in at a feathery 8.37 ounces, thanks in part to its minimalist, race-inspired tongue that prioritizes weight over all-out comfort.

So what did change? According to Hoka, it retooled the creel jacquard upper for improved ventilation and breathability. Meanwhile, the forefoot features a new rubber compound for extra grip on wet roads.

Availability and pricing

One thing Hoka didn’t mess with: the franchise’s budget-friendly price tag.

The Mach 7 launches at $145, making it cheaper than the Clifton ($155), Bondi ($175) and even the Adidas Adizero Evo SL ($150), a shoe considered one of the best deals on store shelves.

Available in seven colorways, the shoe goes on sale March 1.
