Rugged outdoor adventure is woven into Buck’s DNA. In fact, the brand’s original knives, forged by founder Hoyt Buck, date back to the early 1900s โ€” a rougher, tougher time in our country’s history.

Over the years, the brand has evolved quite a bit, but the penchant for tough-use cutting tools designed for the outdoors has never changed. As proof positive of that, the brand’s 124 Frontiersman knife โ€” a classic, beefy Bowie โ€” remains one of its most popular offerings.

That’s about to become even more true, because the Buck Knives Customizable 124 Frontiersman Knife just added a fan-favorite blade steel upgrade to its many custom options.

Take a bow(ie)

A classic Bowie-style fixed blade, the 124 Frontiersmen is an intimidating knife. It measures 11.75 inches in total, and 6.25 of them are taken up by the burly blade.

Even with the standard steel, 420HC, it makes for an extremely capable cutting tool. Of course, the new upgrade makes it even more robust and formidable.

Its popularity is absolutely warranted. MagnaCut delivers in just about every way.

So, what steel is it, you are likely wondering? Well, the custom program already offered the standard 420HC, as well as D2 and CruWear. Those are already exceptional options, so it takes a lot to trump them all. Yet that’s exactly what adding MagnaCut to the mix has done.

MagnaCut might be the most hyped super steel of the moment, beloved for its outstanding combination of toughness, edge retention and corrosion resistance. In fact, this steel seems to excel where others compromise, which largely accounts for just how popular it is.

Its popularity is absolutely warranted. MagnaCut delivers in just about every way … but it is quite expensive. Still, you’d be hard-pressed to find a knife nut who doesn’t see the value in a MagnaCut investment.

Big Buck hunter

Adding MagnaCut to the Customizable 124 Frontiersman is certainly worthy of celebration. However, there’s a lot more to love about this knife’s breadth of options.

Beyond the steel, the handle hardware can be swapped, as well, between either silver or brass. The brass is a $50 upcharge, but it adds a bit of classic refinement to the knife and, for many, is likely worth it.

The handle can be customized with silver or brass hardware, as well as scales crafted from eight different materials.

But the real big, tough choice is which handle material to choose, from a robust collection of options. There are eight total, and they range in price from $0 to an additional $150.

In ascending order of price, they are Black Linen Micarta, Burgundy Micarta, OD Green Micarta, Cocobolo, Ebony, Ironwood, Maple Burlwood and Elk Antler. And every configuration comes with its own leather sheath.

So, what are you waiting for? An invitation?
