A classic Bowie-style fixed blade, the 124 Frontiersmen is an intimidating knife. It measures 11.75 inches in total, and 6.25 of them are taken up by the burly blade.

Even with the standard steel, 420HC, it makes for an extremely capable cutting tool. Of course, the new upgrade makes it even more robust and formidable.

So, what steel is it, you are likely wondering? Well, the custom program already offered the standard 420HC, as well as D2 and CruWear. Those are already exceptional options, so it takes a lot to trump them all. Yet that’s exactly what adding MagnaCut to the mix has done.

MagnaCut might be the most hyped super steel of the moment, beloved for its outstanding combination of toughness, edge retention and corrosion resistance. In fact, this steel seems to excel where others compromise, which largely accounts for just how popular it is.

Its popularity is absolutely warranted. MagnaCut delivers in just about every way … but it is quite expensive. Still, you’d be hard-pressed to find a knife nut who doesn’t see the value in a MagnaCut investment.

But the real big, tough choice is which handle material to choose, from a robust collection of options. There are eight total, and they range in price from $0 to an additional $150.

In ascending order of price, they are Black Linen Micarta, Burgundy Micarta, OD Green Micarta, Cocobolo, Ebony, Ironwood, Maple Burlwood and Elk Antler. And every configuration comes with its own leather sheath.
