Anyone who spends much time in and around the ocean, whether it be for diving, boating, surfing or any other aquatic pursuit, appreciates the link between the water and the Moon.

In celebration of the lunar gravitational forces that keep the seas in motion, Yema adorned its flagship dive watch with a titanium dial that emulates the Moon’s distinctive surface.

Completing the theme, the Superman Titanium MoonTide features a case, bezel frame, caseback and optional bracelet all made from Grade 2 titanium. Even the French watchmaker’s trademarked bezel lock is made from the featherweight metallic alloy.

The 38mm Superman case has an elliptical shape with a slight curve to the drilled lugs and a crown guard. The titanium build is finished with satin brushing on the top and sides, accented by a polished chamfered edge.

The muted gray hue of the titanium is matched by the monotone detailing of a black ceramic bezel insert with a white, fully graduated 60-minute track. It is held in a coin-edge bezel frame, secured by the screw-down bezel lock.

The applied triangle-dot-dash hour markers are white, and the standard Superman handset, featuring an obelisk hour hand, a big triangle minutes hand and a lollipop seconds hand, has a matte black IP finish with white Super-LumiNova inserts that emit a blue glow.

While not a traditional pip format, the triangle on the bezel does feature a matching blue Super-LumiNova glow.

To the Moon!

The watch market is swimming in titanium divers, and they are even pretty affordable from brands like Citizen and Timex. Yema’s new Superman stands out from the crowd by doing something unusual with titanium.

The dial’s lunar texture is achieved through an oil-pressing technique, resulting in a glossy finish.
Yema

An oil-pressing technique, rare but not unheard of in watch production, is used to achieve the dial’s glowing luna texture. Starting with a sandblasted titanium plate, a liquid lacquer is applied, then the plate is placed in a high-pressure stamp.

The technique allows the dial to mimic both the battered texture and the solar glow of the Moon’s surface when viewed from Earth. The effect is magnified by the double-domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating.

Time and tide wait for no man

Ticking away inside the Superman Titanium MoonTide is an in-house Yema Caliber CMM.11 automatic movement, which beats at 4Hz with a measured accuracy of -3/+5 seconds per day and offers a 70-hour power reserve.
