Seiko has really been giving a lot of attention to its top-level Astron watch lately.

Updates over the past couple of years have given the direct descendant of the first-ever quartz watch a high-end makeover, as Seiko has transformed the Astron into a luxury sports watch with upgraded finishing on its angular case and integrated bracelet, intricate patterned dials and fully loaded advanced quartz movements boasting solar charging and GPS-linked accuracy.

The most recent update took place just a few weeks ago in May, with the introduction of the new Calibre 5X63 movement giving the watch a more attractive dial layout and a thinner case, along with more refined finishing and a new quick-release bracelet system.

Now, Seiko has introduced a pair of limited-edition Astron 5X63 models that show the brand isn’t afraid to get fun and colorful with its high-end quartz line.

Tourmaline dream

The Seiko GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph Calibre 5X63 gets two new limited editions that are just perfect for summer in the references HAB005 and HAB006.

Specs-wise, these two watches are exactly the same as the GPS Solar 5X63 models that launched last month. Their octagonal bezel-topped Super Hard-Coated titanium cases measure 43.4mm across, 50mm long and just 12.4mm thick, and they’re integrated perfectly into their matching titanium three-row bracelets.

The functionality also remains the same, with the Cal. 5X63 boasting such features as a perpetual calendar that corrects for Daylight Savings Time, a dual-time function, a 1/20th-second chronograph and a world timer. The movement is powered by any light and will run for six months on a full charge.

On its own, the quartz movement is good for +/-15 seconds-per-month accuracy, but in practical use, the watch is even more precise, thanks to its automatic satellite-linking feature that updates the hands to atomic time throughout the day, anywhere in the world.

The watches not only feature striking new colors, but an entirely new faceted dial pattern inspired by quartz crystals.

What’s new here is the dial. The symmetrical three black subdial panda layout remains, but the rest of the dial features a new, more three-dimensional pressed pattern inspired by the facets of a quartz crystal. This crystal pattern is highly attractive in the way it reflects light, with its beauty amplified by the two available colors: Crystal Pink and Crystal Green.

I’m not used to seeing such bright, summery colors on a Seiko Astron, and both shades look spectacular here when contrasted with the black accents on the rest of the dial. You can play up those contrasts even further by swapping out the bracelet for the included integrated black silicone strap. Doing so is easy thanks to the push-button strap exchange system.

Availability and pricing

The Crystal Green HAB005 and Crystal Pink HAB006 are each limited to 1,200 pieces, and both are scheduled for a fitting summer release from Seiko in July 2026.

Pricing is naturally the same for both models at $2,900, which is equal to the HAB004 145th Anniversary Edition that was announced last month; the only other 5X63 model to include an additional rubber strap.
