Just over one year ago, iBasso introduced its new flagship portable hi-fi player, the DX340, targeting on-the-go audiophiles wanting a premium device to listen to high-fidelity audio that their smartphones couldn’t provide. It is priced at $1,999.

Fast forward to the present day, and the prominent hi-fi manufacturer has introduced a limited edition of its DX340, which looks a bit nicer and, naturally, is a good bit more expensive, too.

Titanium > stainless steel

The big news with this limited-edition model is that it comes in titanium — specifically, it has a CNC-milled titanium body — that promises to look and feel more premium than the standard model, which has a stainless steel body along with black accents.

According to the brand, this flagship DAP (digital audio player) “represents [its] most complete and meticulously engineered portable source to date.”

The DX340 has 3.5mm and 4.4mm (balanced) outputs so that it can accommodate a wide range of wired headphones and IEMs.

Aside from the titanium body, the limited-edition model is almost exactly identical to the standard model. It has a 6-inch touchscreen display and offers two operating systems: Mango OS for “the purest playback experience,” or Android 13 for “flexible streaming and app access.”

Additionally, it packs a high-quality DAC, and supports high-resolution formats, including PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD512 decoding.

One of the things that makes iBasso’s flagship player, the DX340, unique is its modular amplifier architecture. Basically, it supports interchangeable amplifier cards, which make it easier to upgrade over time (when future cards are introduced) and enable it to power more demanding headphones.

And that’s where the standard and titanium editions differ slightly, too. The standard model comes equipped with an AMP15 module, while the titanium edition comes with a “newly modified” version of the AMP15 … although the company hasn’t explicitly explained what that means.

Price and availability

iBasso claims that its flagship portable hi-fi player has been engineered to “deliver uncompromising sound quality” and redefine portable listening for audiophiles … be it the standard or titanium edition models.

The standard (stainless steel) model of the DX340 costs $1,999, while the titanium model is priced at $2,199 — so that’s $200 extra for the more premium version.

Note that the titanium version is a limited-edition model, though iBasso hasn’t clarified how limited production will be. Both are available now from Bloom Audio and authorized online retailers.
