Did Ikea Just Reimagine One of Its Most Popular, Affordable Speakers?

It looks (and works) quite like one of the Symfonisk speakers, which were a joint collaboration with Sonos.

This past spring, it was revealed that Ikea was phasing out its lineup of Symfonisk speakers, which it joint created with Sonos. It was a bummer because they were essentially the most affordable Sonos speakers you could buy.

Of these Symfonisk speakers, the two most popular were the Symfonisk Bookshelf Speaker and the Symfonisk Table Lamp Speaker. Both had similar guts and acoustic capabilities as Sonos’s Play:1, but, as their names give away, were disguised as a bookshelf (literally) and a table lamp, respectively.

Fast forward to the present day, and you can still buy each of these Symfonisk speakers for $180 (bookshelf) and $280 (table lamp) โ€” although Ikea lists both as “Last chance to buy.”

That said, for those interested in the table lamp speaker but put off by the $280 price tag (which is significantly higher than the $179 it was at launch in 2019), Ikea has just revealed a new option that looks similar but is much more affordable.

Since it was revealed that Ikea and Sonos were going there separate ways, the Swedish furniture giant has introduced several new Bluetooth speakers for the home … including the Blomprakt, which also pulls double duty as a tabletop lamp.

However, with the all-new Kulglass, Ikea has introduced one that looks to be the same size and shape as the Symfonisk Table Lamp Speaker. Only the Kulglass has a more playful and colorful design.

The Kulglass is part of Ikea’s new Teklan collection, which features several other powered Bluetooth speakers for the home โ€” all of which have been designed with renowned colorist Tekla Evelina Severin.

According to Ikea’s press release, the Teklan collection of speakers features “bold patterns and unexpected color combinations” and was meant to “make technology a more enjoyable and visible part of the home.”

The Kulglass table lamp speakers will be available in two color options: one that is various shades of green, or the other a combination of red, brown, and pink.

The speaker base’s silhouette and the lampโ€™s swirl-shaped shade were, according to the brand, inspired by soft-serve ice cream.

“I wanted this inviting shape to contrast the technical complexity we usually associate with high-quality sound,” said Teklan. “While the inside is advanced, the outside feels warm, open, and easy to understand.”

“For the colors, I was chasing a soothing feeling from the past,” she explained. “The mint green came from a childhood memory, and I even went to my grandparentsโ€™ home to match it to the exact shade of an old bar of soap I remembered.”

As far as the actual speaker, the Kulglass is poised to be a fairly straight shooter. It’s a powered Bluetooth speaker featuring a 1-inch tweeter and 3.5-inch woofer. It also has a large volume knob and simple pairing buttons.

Its most “advanced” feature is that it supports Spotify Tap, allowing you to quickly start playlists (or pick up where you last left off) with the press of a button. It can also be grouped or stereo-paired with another Kulglass speaker.

Ikea will begin selling the Kulglass in the US, starting in January 2026.

It’ll come in two colors, green or red/pink, with each unit costing $130
