Moondrop is a tech-driven audio company that makes a wide range of audio gear for hi-fi enthusiasts: everything from passive speakers to over-ear headphones, portable CD players to in-ear monitors.

And now the brand has introduced a new high-end pair of planar magnetic headphones named Skyland.

Not your average planar magnetics

Moondrop’s Skyland is a wired, open-back headphone. Each pair features large 100mm planar magnetic drivers with an ultra-thin 500nm diaphragm, which is designed to move quickly and accurately, and ultimately deliver an incredibly detailed sound.

In addition to their large, ultra-thin drivers, the Skyland headphones incorporate Full Drive Technology (FDT); the planar circuits are distributed across the driver’s entire vibrating section (rather than just a central section, like most planar magnetic headphones).

According to Moondrop, this helps the Skyland achieve performance levels closer to those of electrostatic headphones.

The headphones promise to feel premium, but also be lightweight and comfortable (which most planar magnetic headphones are not). They have a high-strength all-aluminum alloy CNC hollow structure and a carbon fiber headband.

Uniquely, the headband’s internal frame is created with a flexible hollow 3D-printed technology, which is commonly used in professional sports for custom equipment. Moonlab claims it provides a larger contact area for your head, which ultimately makes them more comfortable to wear.

Rounding out the materials, the ear pads are made out of high-quality lambskin.

The Skyland headphones come with a detachable 4.4mm balanced cables, along with two adapters for 6.35mm and XLR four-pin, ensuring that you’re able to use them with a wide range of sources.
