Rega is best known for its high-end, meticulously engineered turntables (as well as tonearms and cartridges for those turntables), but it also makes a wide variety of other audiophile-grade components.

Now, after teasing them earlier in the year, the British hi-fi manufacturer has finally introduced its new flagship power amplifier, the Solis, and a new flagship preamplifier, the Mercury.

According to the brand, they are “the culmination of almost four decades of Rega electronics engineering experience in solid-state amplifier development.”

A flagship power amplifier

The Solis is a stereo power amplifier with hella power. It’s capable of delivering 168 watts (into 8 ohms) or 305 watts (into 4 ohms) per channel, making it engineered to drive the most demanding loudspeakers.

Rega designed the Solis with a fully symmetrical circuit that, according to the brand, provides “the necessary voltage swings to enable the Solis to drive any speaker system with the minimum of distortion.”

A “no compromise” preamp

The Mercury is a “no comprise” preamplifier, according to the brand, that is designed to work in tandem with the Solis power amplifier. (To get you up to speed regarding the naming, Solis is Latin for “sun,” and Mercury is the closest planet to the sun.)

Like the Solis, the Mercury features fully discrete, symmetrical circuitry to keep the audio signal as pure as possible. Rega designed it to be a pretty accommodating component, too, decking it out with a high-performance DAC and a discrete headphone amplifier for those wanting a more private listening session.

A perfect pairing

While it’s in vogue to have integrated components these days, it’s also been the perfected audiophile route to keep things separate — it ensures neither component can add distortion to the other.

According to Rega, the “advantage of using a separate chassis for the pre-amplifier and power amplifier allows the low voltage, sensitive circuitry to be isolated from the high current, power amplifier circuitry.”

Together, the two components are meant to be the bedrock of a truly elite home hi-fi system.

Price and availability

As mentioned, Rega teased both the Solis power amplifier and the Mercury preamplifier earlier this year, and they are now shipping in the UK, with global availability — including the US — expected in early 2026.

The Solis and Mercury are priced at $10,495 each, so the pair is expected to cost exactly double.
