Updates on Ikepod's first sneaker (not a collab!), Shiner's latest IPA and Casper's new line of sleepwear, including a jacket that's literally a duvet with pockets.
If you've ever been to Manhattan (and shopped in the buzzy SoHo district of the city), you've likely come across REI's massive store in the Puck Building. The location isn't just notable for its large size and key placement, it's also the (possible) future site of REI's first-ever union. At the end of last week, employees at the Manhattan flagship — roughly 115 individuals — have filed a request with the National Labor Relations Board with a successful initiative resulting in the aforementioned employees gaining representation by the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union. While REI has retail locations across the country and employs more than 15,000, this unionization effort is born out of anxieties surrounding the pandemic, including unsafe working conditions. While REI has expressed support for its employees' rights to unionize, like many other retailers, feels that it's not the best option for its workers and its business. Time will tell if this initiative will actually go forward, but it is a big pro-union step in one of the biggest retail areas of the country. REI news aside, we've got updates on Ikepod's first sneaker (not a collab!), Shiner's latest IPA and Casper's new line of sleepwear, including a jacket that's literally a duvet with pockets. This is Today in Gear.

Onsloe, a brand based in New York City, aims to shift the paradigm around men's style, building a curatorial approach to the way it sources, produces and sells each and every one of its garments. Tapping into the legacy of the Crombie silhouette, Onsloe's version is crafted from 100 per Shetland Wool and is literally made-to-order, so you can add anything from an extra pocket to a subtle embroidered detail.
Ikepod is known for its conceptual watch designs and cult-favorite status among collectors, but we might need to add sneakers to the list of colletctable Ikepod releases. Dubbed, fittingly, the "Sneakerpod", the shoe is made in Portugal and is unique for being a direct product of the brand (in other words, not a collaboration). You'll spot Ikepod's classic Hemipode bird logo on the heel and notice Ikepod's bulky, round silhouettes mirrored in the cushy sole.
Shiner — the Texas brewery known for its popular bock beer — has just dropped a bewitching new brew. It's newest release, dubbed "TexHex Bruja's Brew IPA" is made with a combination of cactus water and amarillo hops. The flavor profile looks to blend both citrus and refreshing bitterness to create something brand new for a brewery that's been crafting beer in the Lone Star state since 1909.
When it comes to intricately-designed, future-forward techwear, there's Acronym... and then there's everyone else. The brand's new J93-GTPL parka is both lightweight but extremely weather-resistant, thanks to the use of 2L Gore-Tex Paclite Plus fabric. Like other Acronym outerwear, it's built on a multi-panel ergonomic block (for various wear styles) and a snorkel hood that can be retooled for a wide variety of conditions. Long story short: It's another hyper-functional (and hyper-expensive) piece of outwear.
Casper doesn't sleep when it comes to outfitting people with everything they need for the perfect bedtime experience. On top of its mattresses and pillows, the brand has added a new "Snoozewear" line. A small collection of sleep-ready garments, the offering includes slippers, a sleep mask and (arguably the crown jewel) a Blanket Robe that literally looks like duvet... but with pockets.
