When one typically thinks of off-roaders, the usual suspects tend to populate the mind. Such examples include trucks and SUVs from Toyota, Nissan, Jeep and Land Rover. Now, you can add Bentley to the mix.

One of the world’s oldest automakers just revealed a new dedicated off-roader concept based on its ultra-luxe SUV. It’s called the Bentayga X Concept, and it’s the automaker’s vision of a purpose-built all-terrain machine.

That is, if Bentley pulled all the stops out and went buckwild, which it pretty much did.

No longer the Bentley you typically remember

The Bentayga X Concept answers the “what if” question for overlanding fans.

Bentley is hard at work at revamping its image, all to attract more youthful buyers and enthusiasts. It began with a recent collaboration featuring Travis Pastrana going ham with a purpose-built drifting machine based on the Continental GT Supersports.

Now, Bentley’s looking to tug at the hearts of the opulent four-wheeling and overlanding crowd.

As such, it starts life as your typical short-wheelbase Bentayga Speed. But Bentley did the unthinkable by giving it a two-inch lift kit, wide axle tracks and beefed-up suspension. The result is a considerable boost in ground clearance and even water fording capabilities.

Forged lightweight 22-inch Brixton wheels wrapped in rugged all-terrain rubber and tons of exterior livery stickers complete the package.

The only thing missing from the Bentayga X Concept is a bunch of mud on the body.

And the result is nothing short of amazing. The Bentayga X utilizes the the same powertrain as the Bentayga Speed. That means the usual twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 good for 641 horsepower.

The Bentayga X is the result of a collaboration with the world-renowned FAT Ice Race and Rally. It’s a festival that celebrates automotive culture and motorsports, except in the winter scene.

A potential taste-tester for things to come

Bentley says they don’t intent to put Bentayga X Concept into production. But rather, it’s to test the waters to see if those with deep enough pockets are interested in overlanding and all-terrain vehicle from the Flying B.

After all, Land Rover and even Mercedes-Benz produce purpose-built off-roaders that are genuinely capable machines. Given that a full-size Range Rover or a Geländewagen, or even a Defender could easily crest six figures, who says the ultra-rich can’t have four-wheeled fun in the dirt?
