With today’s seemingly endless supply of camper vans and overlanding rigs, it’s easy to forget one of the RV world’s oldest forms: the pickup truck-based camper. But Storyteller decided to remind the world that they still exist and they’re just as good and capable as ever.
It’s latest is the 2027 GXV Wild and it’s based off of Ram’s latest 3500 heavy-duty trucks. Despite its modest roots, at least compared to some of the other over-the-top camper vans, trailers and builds, the GXV proves that camper trucks are still very relevant and just as awesome and capable as ever.
One truly capable overlander

Because Ram recently updated its entire pickup truck lineup, Storyteller naturally followed suit. Since, well, it is the baseline for its GXV Wild.
It starts life using Ram’s latest 3500 heavy-duty single cab in Big Horn Level 2 trim, complete with four-wheel drive and a 6.4-liter HEMI V8.
But Storyteller doesn’t just remove the pickup bed and slap its custom-built camper on the back. The firm goes above and beyond to ensure its capabilities. As such, Storyteller’s engineers then fit the Ram 3500 with a heavy-duty AEV off-road suspension kit.
