The latest non-turbo, race-ready 911 variant, freshly facelifted and very green, has finally arrived. It’ll be fully unveiled in the metal at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show and ready for purchase later this year. Porsche has dialed up styling and, most importantly, upped power as well.
In front, notice a more steroidal fascia with massive intakes and a bigger lip spoiler; the front fenders and hood — complete with brake cooling ducts — are carbon fiber. Above the driver’s head is a partial-magnesium roof. That massive spoiler out back? It produces twice as much downforce as the “regular” GT3.
Also out back, the 4.0-liter flat-six sports 520 horsepower, an increase of 20, and just a hair more (eight) lb-ft of torque at 346. The biggest news here is that the thing now revs to 9,000 freaking RPM. All these factors combine to move the 2019 GT3 RS to 60 in three seconds, which is a tenth of a second quicker than the outgoing model. A seven-speed dual-clutch puts the power down to the wheels, but don’t expect a manual transmission in this car — ever.
The new GT3 RS is faster partially due to weight savings: the carbon fiber and magnesium details mentioned above, plus carbon fiber seat shells, less sound-deadening material and Weissach Package-only magnesium wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes — the car can be specced to weigh just 3,153 pounds.
You’ll pay for power: the 2019 GT3 RS starts at $188,550; the Weissach package is $18K and those magnesium wheels at $13K more.
