Automakers are recasting themselves as tech-savvy “mobility solution” providers for the 21st Century, investing in e-Bikes and scooters. FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) has bucked the trend more than most companies, focusing on providing the SUVs and trucks customers are buying, however inefficient. But even they have now succumbed.
Jeep’s Super Bowl Gladiator ad with Bill Murray, which could make a future best Super Bowl car ads list, briefly teased a badass, all-terrain e-Bike that Jeep plans to sell this year.
Details are scarce, but the website exists. The Jeep e-bike, creatively named the “e-BIKE,” will be a partnership with bike manufacturer Quietkat. Jeep is describing it as an “all-terrain” bike with 4.8-inch fat tires and a “fire-link suspension.” This off-road capability would overlap with the requirements for urban commuting use, and the bike will get up to a 40-mile range.
The e-BIKE will be available in June 2020. Jeep made no mention of pricing, though Quietkat’s bikes retail for between $2,700 and $6,200. If you can’t wait until June for Jeep’s e-Bike, you can save $500 by pre-ordering the Super 73 R-Series e-bikes through the end of February.
