Mercedes-Benz Is Building a Camper Van for Americans

Mercedes-Benz has a new camper van—and you CAN buy it.

There are no shortage of awesome camper vans out there. But all too often, they’re built by some independent European manufacturer, and there are no plans to sell them in the United States. Well, Mercedes-Benz has heard your cries of anguish. The company just announced plans to offer the Mercedes-Benz Weekender, which it’s calling a “modern, practical pop-up camper for the U.S. market.”

The Weekender will be built in partnership with Driverge Vehicle Innovations and Peace Vans, with the mid-size Mercedes Metris serving as the base vehicle. The Weekender will seat five and sleep four, thanks to a pop-up sleeper compartment and a fold-out rear bench. The front seats will swivel 180 degrees to face back into the interior. It will also have a second battery for charging your myriad devices. (The company did not mention whether these vans would be compatible with Mercedes’s MBAC control system.)

Buyers will be able to order a Weekender from U.S. Mercedes-Benz dealerships starting this spring. Mercedes has not revealed information on the price yet, but we’re hoping it won’t be too crazy. We need to start saving, after all.
