The Lamborghini Aventador is unquestionably a land rocket. Trust us. We’ve driven it, and we’re still trying to massage our organs back into alignment. Now that Lamborghini has pulled the curtains back on their roofless V12-powered Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster (~$381,000), we’re prepared to search for our scalps after a quick jaunt around the block. It’ll be worth it.
The Aventador Roadster packs the same punch as the original hardtop with a monstrous 6.5 liter V12 that spews 700 horsepower to all four wheels. The two-piece carbon fiber roof conveniently stows in the front luggage compartment. Sadly, you have to remove it by hand; still, it weighs only 13 pounds. You won’t see a ridiculous retractable hardtop on a car of this type because it would severely alter the center of gravity, front-to-rear weight ratio and just plain wouldn’t work on a mid-mounted engine vehicle — so stop wishing. Lambo has also added a powered rear window and front wind deflector, along with a modified cowl and engine compartment to accommodate the roofless configuration.
Performance numbers are largely unaffected. 0-60 in just under 3 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph make putting your hands in the air like you just don’t care the perfect recipe for some serious wind burn. Speaking of burn: given its $441,600 asking price, the Roadster will also send your wallet up in flames.
