The BMW M5 Touring is already one of the hottest wagons money can buy today. But it wears its performance potential proudly on its sheetmetal, almost to the point where it’s clearly a target for the five-o.

So, it’s a little difficult to fly under the radar with it. But there’s still one firm out there that might just have a solution, in case you didn’t want to attract as much attention.

That firm is Bovensiepen. If that name sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the surname of the man who founded the iconic BMW-centric aftermarket tuning firm, Alpina.

A more gentleman’s like M5 Touring

Despite Alpina officially being acquired by the Munich automaker, the founder’s son, Andreas Bovensiepen, still felt compelled to maintain his independence by styling up current high-performance Bimmers.

That’s exactly what he did with the M5 Touring.

It’s really hard to imagine how much hotter it could get, what with its 717-horsepower rating and enough torque to kickstart a planet’s rotation. But in family tradition, Bovensiepen continued the artisan work he and his father were most known for, applying their bespoke treatment to the spicy long-roof.

Naturally, it’s called the Bovensiepen, and it wears “05 GT” on the back of its trunk lid. The results are nothing less than staggering.

Bovensiepen doesn’t just tone down the M5 Touring’s shouty exterior. The company does so in a very mature and handsome manner, elevating the BMW’s sheet metal into a finer, more sophisticated form.

But more refined appearances aren’t the only standout changes with the 05 GT. Bovensiepen also squeezes a bit more power out of the M5 Touring’s already potent twin-turbo V8-based gas-electric plug-in hybrid system.

Another 73 horses and torques to be exact. And the supposed result is a 0-62 mph sprint in just 3.6 seconds and a top run of 190 mph.

Bovensiepen also went to work with the chassis and suspension. Such includes beefed up Eibach springs, upgraded control bushings all around, and high-performance Pirellis.

It’s just the beginning in keeping with tradition

It was a rather bittersweet moment when BMW finally acquired its iconic aftermarket tuning firm, Alpina, in full. Sweet, in that Alpina now is officially a part of the automaker’s portfolio, which means there may be more special BMWs on the way, complete with full factory-backed support.

Bitter, in that Alpina has always been an independent firm known for its exclusivity. But thankfully, Bovensiepen hopes to further the legacy of his father’s company in his own way.

Mr. Andreas Bovensiepen himself essentially said the 05 GT is just the beginning of a new frontier for his family’s long-running history. There’s much more to come from his newly established nameplate.

Availability and pricing

Bovensiepen says the 05 GT will launch for German and European customers sometime later this year with prices starting at €198,900, or roughly $230,000 Yankee bucks with today’s rates. The firm, however, did not say whether it will export the 05 GT to North America.
