After getting its start with stretched Wrangler TJs back in the 1990s, American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) has since expanded its wheelhouse beyond the Jeep brand.

Yet, while the Montana-based outfit has offered everything from rugged off-road parts to full-fledged transformations — and on platforms spanning Ram, Chevrolet and GMC — there was one conspicuous absence from its vehicle packages: Ford.

Now, however, AEV is extending its expertise with a turnkey offering targeting pickups from the Blue Oval’s lineup for the first time. It’s called the FXL, and it takes the all-terrain capabilities of Ford’s Super Duty trucks to new heights.

A turnkey off-road transformation

It’s a fitting name, as the “XL” portion of the moniker actually refers to the Super Duty’s newfound ability to squeeze some 40-inch tires (BFGoodrich HD-Terrain KTs) beneath the wheel arches. They absolutely dwarf the corresponding set of 18-inch Katmai beadlock wheels.

Of course, seeing as Ford’s own off-road-ready Tremor trim can only fit a 35-inch tire from the factory, accomplishing such a feat requires a host of modifications.

Along with a set of HighMark fender flares, AEV installs its DualSport XP suspension system, which includes a four-inch lift, specially tuned Bilstein shocks and some custom coil springs.

But that’s not all. As part of the FXL transformation, AEV also fits Ford Super Duty trucks with a stamped steel bumper up front and a high-clearance rear bumper at the rear.

The former includes a standard winch mount, and, while it’ll eventually be compatible with a brush guard, it nevertheless manages to maintain the pickup’s factory ADAS systems

Rounded out by an eye-catching graphics package and a special plaque serializing each pickup’s build, it makes for quite the overhaul.

AEV’s à la carte upgrade menu

Assuming you’d like to take more of a DIY approach, you’re in luck. In addition to offering the FXL as an off-the-shelf package, AEV will also begin selling components individually through its global dealer network.

You don’t have to spring for the entire FXL package; AEV will be selling each component individually.

As such, whether you have your sights set on some extra rubber or you need a robust bumper upgrade, both current and prospective Super Duty owners will be able to benefit from AEV’s expertise.

All the more so because the brand will be expanding its Ford offerings later this year. While the FXL package is only currently available for the F-250 and F-350, AEV does have plans to release some components for the F-450 and F-550 as well.

In any case, even though FXL doesn’t include any powertrain upgrades, it’s nevertheless far more capable than anything Ford offers from the factory. Until the Blue Oval decides to expand its Raptor lineup, AEV’s transformation should provide buyers with a worthy alternative, though.

More to come

As of this writing, American Expedition Vehicles has yet to announce pricing or availability for its Super Duty FXL.

However, seeing as the truck is slated to make its debut in the coming days at the 2026 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the company should be making it available soon. For perspective, the Ram Prospector XL runs from $24,399.
