After Two Years of Confusion, the Ultimate Jeep Wrangler Is Officially Here to Stay

Even Jeep can’t bear the idea of saying ‘goodbye’ to its V8-powered Wrangler 4×4 at the end of the year.

When Jeep first introduced the Wrangler Rubicon 392 back in 2021, the brand planned on making the Hemi-powered off-roader a limited-run model.

Come time for discontinuation in 2024, the V8 Wrangler did receive a send-off in the form of the Final Edition. Ultimately, however, Jeep decided to give the model an encore and bring it back for 2025.

Confusingly, this year’s Rubicon 392 model was named (once again) the Final Edition. And, even though it seemed like the V8 Wrangler was definitely getting its last hurrah, Jeep has just announced that it’s here to stay — and for years to come.

The 392 is back again (again)

As reported by Car and Driver, Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf made it clear at an event yesterday that the Wrangler 392 V8 won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

On the contrary — Broderdorf stated that, “We will extend the availability of the 392 Wrangler, and in fact, we will tap the power and performance of the Hemi across Jeep products as new projects are already underway.”

Now, the news follows Ram reintroducing the 5.7-liter Hemi to its 1500 series truck lineup earlier this summer, so it’s not the first time that the engine has gotten a reprieve under the Stellantis umbrella.

Still, it makes for exciting news for Jeep fans while also posing an interesting possibility: a V8 Gladiator. The Jeep CEO allegedly made some remarks suggesting the arrival of a 392 model with a bed.

While corporate has since confirmed that the Wrangler is on its way, it hasn’t openly addressed the Jeep Gladiator. Regardless, given the number of loyalists to the six-figure Jeep, a Gladiator 392 model would make sense from a marketing perspective.

Mixed energy messaging

That is especially true considering Stellantis’s efforts to right the ship this year. In addition to the above comments, Broderdorf also mentioned that “the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 will have a home at Jeep” because “people want options.”

Like other Stellantis brands — including Alfa Romeo, Dodge and Maserati — Jeep has had to make more than a few pivots regarding its electrification strategy over the past few years.

The most ambitious of targets in the industry aspired to have fully electric lineups from 2030 to 2035, though changes in government administration and consumer demand have since eased those pressures.

As such, with the way forward being so unclear, Jeep has joined the growing ranks of automakers who are simultaneously looking ahead while continuing to play the hits.

On the one hand, the brand is developing premium all-electric SUVs such as the Wagoneer S. At the same time, however, Jeep is also catering to those who want a big engine with gobs of power and loud exhaust.

Pricing and availability

Though Jeep hasn’t announced pricing for the 2026 Wrangler Rubicon 392, the 2025 model is still available. With MSRP starting at $100,590, you can learn more on the brand’s website or head down to your local Jeep dealer.
