If you’re a hardcore and traditional Range Rover fan, you might want to look away. Because the British automaker just teased what could be the most insanely radical variant yet.

At first glance, it looks more like a wagon or fastback sedan. Thus, it likely has you thinking: there’s no way this is a Range Rover, it’s probably a Jaguar. But no, no it isn’t.

What you’re looking at is the world’s first-ever glimpse at the first-ever Range Rover designed specifically for the road as a grand tourer.

A Range Rover unlike any other

It’s called the Range Rover GT. It’s the latest variant of Land Rover’s flagship SUV. Except, clearly, it’s not like any other Range Rover ever made.

As one can tell from its low-slung roofline, relatively short ground clearance and slick fastback design, it ain’t no big boy SUV. Which, is about as much of a break from tradition as Ford making the Mustang Mach-E an SUV, and not a muscle coupe or convertible.

Rather, it looks much more like a lifted wagon, similar to the likes of the Toyota Crown Signia, Audi Allroad, et al. And that’s part of the point.

What you’re looking at is the most road-ready Range Rover ever. And it will arrive in the coming years as the automaker’s new flagship all-electric grand tourer in the coming years.

The GT will join the model’s lineup, alongside the conventional full-size model and its long-wheelbase variant, the Sport, Evoque, and Velar. It’s a part of the brand’s decision to split its model range into their own respective sub-brands.

It’s a move we’ve seen before, as Land Rover also spawned off the Discovery and Defender nameplates.

So no, the GT is not the replacement for the Velar that’s been rumored for quite some time. Rather, it’s an additional variant.

And, it will be all-electric, representing a new chapter in Jaguar-Land Rover’s electrification strategy. It rides on the company’s new EMA platform, or Electric Modular Architecture.

Though, Land Rover says it will later come with the option of a gas-electric hybrid powertrain later in its product cycle.

It also showcases the company’s newfound efforts in designing and engineering an environmentally sustainable and high-class interior. Using nothing but recycled materials combined with minimalistic and futuristic design.

Details are limited. But the production model is scheduled for launch in 2027.
