One of the most revered lines of German high-performance cars is making a comeback. Mercedes-AMG’s outgoing head honcho, Michael Schiebe, just recently announced the eventual return of Stuttgart’s beloved Black Series models.
Speaking to our friends at Car and Driver, Schiebe confirmed the lineup’s revival during a recent media event. And for those who forgot what they were, AMG’s Black Series was Mercedes-Benz’s range of special-edition, harder-edged, ultra-high-performance models built in the late 2000s up through the early 2020s.

Mercedes-AMG’s making performance dream cars once again

It’s been roughly three years since AMG rolled out a Black Series model. The last one was the first-generation Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, built from 2021 to 2023.
Previously, the lineup consisted of other extra-fast models based on the C209 CLK 63, R230 SL 65, R171 SLK 55, W204 C 63 and the SLS AMG supercar. The first Black Series model was the CLK 63, which debuted back in 2007, and only 500 were made.
