With the #vanlife and overlanding trends still fresh and lively, manufacturers like Vanspeed continue to put forth their best efforts. = The Album 144 is the company’s newest take on its range of lavishly equipped Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans.

More specifically, it’s the first Vanspeed 144 model to feature a full, comprehensive and flexible living quarters. Previously, Vanspeed equipped its models with a hybrid arrangement of passenger seating and mobile amenities.

But this time around Vanspeed forgoes the extra rear passenger seating for a full suite of glamping gear.

Similar to its other 144 models, the Album 144 starts life as a standard short-boy Sprinter with its 144-inch wheelbase (hence the “144” in the name). From there, Vanspeed works its magic, fully outfitting the interior with pretty much everything including the kitchen sink. Just like the other variants.

For the Album, Vanspeed keeps with its regular formula by fluffing up the interior (mainly the storage area) with the sort of aesthetic and ambiance of a high-class camper. It then adds amenities such as the usual selection of bed space and portable appliances.

But unlike the other 144 models, there’s no extra set of seats behind the front seats. Instead, Vanspeed equips the Album 144 with even more gear.

The list includes a Murphy-style collapsible bed, adaptable seating and tabletop surfaces to build out a mobile lounge on wheels, and a potable water system with a wet bath.

Vanspeed also includes its latest integrated power supply system, which features the newest lithium-based battery tech for off-the-grid living.

Go-anywhere capabilities

Vanspeed also doesn’t completely ignore the mechanicals. The Album 144 is still motivated by the Sprinter’s standard turbocharged four-cylinder diesel with 170 horses and 295 pound-feet on tap.

But the company also equips beefy all-terrain tires, metallic stepboards for easy ingress and egress, and a standard roof-rack mounting system.

Despite its modest power, the Album 144 still retains the Sprinter’s standard 4,211-lb payload capacity and ability to tow 5,000 pounds.

Availability and pricing

As with other glamping vans like Vanspeeds offerings, the Album 144 doesn’t come cheap. Pricing is said to start at around $214,000 with invoices likely finalizing much higher than that.

But when your life is on the road and warrants a vehicle like the Album 144, it’s not too bad of a price today. Especially when compared to rent and housing costs these days.
