The landscape for truly wireless earbuds has gotten seriously competitive, so much so that earbuds with the best sound and most prestige are becoming more accessible. Case in point: Bose. The audio giant has dropped the price of its first truly wireless earbuds, the Bose SoundSport Free, from $250 to $200, pulling them within touching distance of the $159 that Apple’s AirPods continue to go for.
Back when they first came out October, I tested the SoundSport Free and noted that “Bose has mastered both the hardware and software sides of things.” If you like the fit of other Bose in-ear headphones, which use the same StayHear+ Sport tips and fit nothing like Apple AirPods, then you’ll love these. The headphones sound significantly better than AirPods, too, which you’d expect from a company like Bose. Lastly, the SoundSport Free earbuds are great for casual listening or working out — yes, they’re sweat-resistant — unlike AirPods.
I really like the SoundSport Free earbuds, but they weren’t perfect. They’re pretty bulbous, sticking out of your ears, so you’re not going to fool anybody while you’re wearing them. The charging case isn’t as sleek or small as the one that houses Apple’s AirPods. And finally, price — but that has now changed. If you’re looking for great wireless headphones that you can wear running and just commuting to work, and you like Bose headphones in general, now is a better time to jump on these wireless earbuds than ever before. You can buy them for $199 on Amazon, Nordstrom and Best Buy.
