When Mike Faherty started his namesake clothing brand a little over five years ago, his focus was on fabric. After spending nearly seven years at Ralph Lauren, Faherty was well-versed in both the process of making great garments and the importance of telling a story through materials. His own brand — cofounded with his brother — was rooted in the East Coast beach lifestyle, so the fabrics he designed for shirts reflected that. They had a great worn-in handfeel and a sun-kissed color. “When you saw our stuff, it was always going to have that little patina on it, whatever the fabrication may be,” Faherty told us in 2017.
