Leatherman Charge Plus TTI
This top-notch multi-tool is purpose-built for everyday carry, workshop use and backcountry repair kits. Titanium handle scales keep weight reasonable (8.9 ounces) and the durability at an all-time high. The tool set covers essentials like pliers, cutters, blades, scissors, drivers, and files. Premium blade steel and replaceable wire cutters add durability where it counts, making it a strong pick for users who want more refinement than an entry-level multi-tool without straying into novelty territory.
The classic Charge offers everything the TTI version does, but it swaps the titanium for alloy steel. Its loaded set of 19 tools includes pliers, wire cutters, spring-action scissors, ruler, can/bottle opener, saw blade and a drop-point blade made of 154cm stainless steel. At 8.3 ounces it actually weighs slightly less than the titanium version but is a bit less durable as well.
This has been one of our top picks for the best multi-tools for years. It includes nearly two dozen functions, including the first built-in ferro rod, hammer, and emergency whistle, all in a compact multi-tool. In other words: 4.5 inches of pure utility. Worth noting: Leatherman’s Amazon shop offers eight different varieties of the Signal, but only this blue-handled version is on sale at the moment.
The K4X is a nine-tool banger built around the brand’s magnetic locking architecture, which allows every implement to be opened and closed with one hand using simple thumb pressure — no pinching required. The combo-edge 420HC blade measures 3.3 inches and is paired with spring-action scissors, a bottle opener and multiple screwdrivers, all housed in aluminum handles with a pocket clip. Note: The shop lists it as the K4, but the half-serrated blade indicates a K4X.
A folding pocket knife can handle many of the unforeseen chores and repairs you might encounter on an adventure. To tackle an even greater variety of tasks, Leatherman added screwdrivers, a bottle opener, package opener, pry tool and an awl into this knife’s handle. Note: The shop lists it as the K2, but the half-serrated blade indicates a K2X.
The Free series boasts an awesome innovation: thanks to clever nubs and magnets, all implements can be accessed with one hand. The tidy T2 packs eight handy implements for tackling a host of outdoor tasks.
