Ask any EDCer in the know about what the best keychain multi-tools are, and the Leatherman Micra is undoubtedly going to make the list. In fact, it could be said that the Micra is among the keychain multi-tools by which all others are judged; it’s a standard-setter.

While its slate of useful tools is a major reason it has retained its relevance for all these years, it doesn’t hurt that the brand frequently returns to it for tweaks and alterations. In fact, that’s what happened just now with the trio of Leatherman S26 Micras that launched today.

Purists and longtime fans will be happy to know that there are no major changes to these three new Leatherman Micra keychain multi-tools. By and large, the EDC darling we have all come to know and love remains intact.

If you are unfamiliar with this tool (or simply need a refresher), allow me to elucidate. The Micra is positively tiny, measuring just 2.5 inches when closed. For reference, that’s about the same length as a house key, albeit on the longer end of the average. It also weighs just 1.8 ounces; again, this is very slight.

Yet it packs a whopping 10+ functions into this minuscule package. And these aren’t just throwaway tools, either. For instance, it supports a 1.6-inch 420HC stainless steel blade that’s perfectly suited to EDC usage.

While it doesn’t have traditional pliers, as is typical with Leatherman’s full-sized folding multi-tools, it does have spring-loaded scissors, which, again, are very useful.

Other crucial additions include a bottle opener, nail file (and cleaner), tweezers and a pair of drivers. Put plainly, the Micra packs a big punch in a tiny package.

So, what’s the difference between these new editions and the existing ones, you might ask? Well, the brand has introduced a trio of new colorways to the lineup: Teal Twist, Lavender Mist and Bayside.

Bayside is pink and green, giving almost watermelon-like vibes. Teal Twist is green and blue. And Lavender Mist, as you might expect, is purple and blue. But here’s the real kicker: while the colorways are fresh, there’s another functional element to them that should excite.

As with their siblings, these finishes are managed with Cerakote coatings on their 420 steel frames. That means, along with their fresh new colors, they also add durability and scratch resistance to the scales, making them useful beyond their stylistic uniqueness.

Yes, these three Micras have a vibrant, timely refresh, just in time for the warmer weather to kick in. But they’re much more than that; they’re tools you can turn to for years to come, and they’ll be no worse for wear even as you put them through their paces.
