Crocs’ Groundbreaking Ultralight Clog Gets a Performance Upgrade

An upgrade to one of the brand’s best-selling clogs, this revamp kicks off the next generation of the beloved Echo lineup.

Crocs is definitely best known for its Classic Clog, which is quickly approaching 25 years in production. However, the brand also has an extensive catalog of other footwear that has consistently kept the brand relevant and pushed its boundaries.

The brand’s Echo lineup has been among its most interesting releases, including the beloved aprés camp clog offshoot, the Echo Ro. And now it has finally gotten an official evolution in the Crocs Echo II, which improves upon it in several crucial ways.

Theory of evolution

Inspired by the Crocs Classic Clog, the Echo built off of that iconic silhouette and brought it into modernity. This silhouette offered more aggressive styling, a sportier back strap and numerous other alterations, both functional and stylistic.

The Echo II retains that same rebellious spirit, but a lot has changed about it, as well. For instance, the overall silhouette is simultaneously sleeker and sharper (metaphorically, of course).

The overall silhouette is less bulbous than the original Echo and the lines are a bit more organic, similar to a contemporary basketball sneaker, while the original was a bit bulkier. It would be fair to call this new edition even sportier than before.

Of course, some of the original spirit and core elements still remain. For example, it retains the same back strap style, with adjustable nylon straps and a silicone overlay. However, the biggest alteration cannot be gleaned from merely a cursory glance.

Crocs shock

Underfoot, this second-generation clog really shines. But it isn’t entirely new; some classic elements remain (and that’s good, as the brand didn’t need to reinvent the wheel).

The clog is still a single molded piece of ultralight, durable Croslite foam. It also gets the upgraded LiteRide footbed found in the original Echo and Echo Ro. That makes it a remarkably comfortable wear, even if you wear them all day long.

But the Echo II has something the original didn’t: a TPU shank at the midfoot. This addition increases the shoe’s overall stability, arch support and stiffness, without adding any extra weight or bulk.

This clog is also still Jibbitz charm-compatible, easy to clean, breathable and more. Truly, this is a worthy evolution of one of Crocs’ most significant and influential catalog essentials.

Availability and pricing

The Crocs Echo II is now available on the brand’s site for $75 per pair in four distinct colorways. There’s also an all-white “Chrome” edition coming soon, and kids’ sizes are available for $55 apiece.
