Don’t be fooled, these new whiskeys from Buffalo Trace Distillery will almost certainly not be available at their suggested $99 retail price.
The Antique collection is a collection of five award-winning, sought-after bottles of whiskey — the lot includes an SFSC Double Gold winning George T. Stagg straight bourbon, Jim Murray’s “Best Rye, 11 Years and Over” from Sazerac, a 12-year-old Weller, an uncut and unfiltered Thomas H. Handy Sazerac rye and a 17-year-old Eagle Rare.
The distillery’s Antique Collection has been releasing limited runs of its accolade-grabbing whiskey for more than a decade now, and will not be easy to come by without a connection or a very lucky trip to your local store. Given the quality, age statements and low quantities of the bottle, a $99 SRP feels oddly low. That would be because it is.
Take 2017’s Antique Collection release, which has seen a $90 SRP bottle of Eagle Rare balloon into a $1,000 bottle of Eagle Rare. Other bottles of collections past share a similar story.
That said, the group of five begin rolling out into markets late September and early October. If you see one on a shelf or behind a counter for anything remotely close to $100, get it.
