Asics has long been a staple in performance running, but in recent years, the Japanese label has quietly surged into the North American spotlight as a lifestyle and technical sneaker heavyweight.

Its flagship stability runner, the Gel-Kayano, was already a favorite among sneaker insiders.

Now, it looks better than ever, courtesy of a fresh update through a new collaboration with São Paulo-based streetwear brand Pace Company.

The new Pace x Gel-Kayano 12.1 brings together Brazilian and Japanese influences, with a healthy dose of modern style to complete the compelling new package.

Pace Company, a São Paulo-based label founded in 2017 by Felipe Matayoshi and Juliana Del Popolo, is known for blending Brazilian culture with Japanese heritage through functional, design-driven pieces.

That global approach, when applied to the trademark Gel-Kayano 12.1, brings both restraint and bold styling to the beloved silhouette.

The upper’s metallic, structural form takes inspiration from European gothic armor, and the open mesh underlays bring airflow and subtle texture to the table.

The organic, glossy black tiger stripes add movement and the hits of red on the outsole, heel and insole add just a touch of vibrant energy.

Textural materials run throughout the shoe: the textured side panels are inspired by snake skin, there’s a press-able red sphere on the heel and synthetic leather with embossed details shows the Asics spiral on one foot and a Japanese Tomoe symbol on the other.
