Let’s be real: flip-flops suck for outdoor adventure. Bedrock’s complete overhaul could change that forever.

For extremely casual activities like hanging out on the beach, flip-flops are awesome. But the second the terrain gets a little rough, or you need to pick up the pace, they’re just terrible.

At best, you’re relegated to an awkward duck jog, marked by the telling flop-flop-flop of the sandals’ soles slapping against your feet. At worst, they slip out from under you or fly off completely, leaving you barefoot and susceptible to hurting yourself on the terrain.

Bedrock’s new Rockhound Sandal could change that forever, and for the better, as this ground-up revamp improves on this casual classic in numerous ruggedized ways.

Flip the script

Bedrock is no stranger to outdoor sandals, offering several variations of its classic Cairn silhouette. There’s even an argument to be made that the brand’s beloved Mountain Clog is a variation of a sandal, depending on where you sit on the concept of slides and open-back footwear.

However, the Rockhound is the brand’s first “true” flip-flop. This means, unlike the brand’s other offerings, it has no back strap whatsoever, opting for a simple over-the-foot strap with a toe post that secures between the wearer’s big and middle toes. You know: a classic flip-flop.

That strap, however, has a sneaky secret power that makes the sandal more secure than its beach-going counterparts: it’s adjustable. You can keep it loose when you want to remain super casual, but you can also tighten it down for a lot more security when the going gets rough.

Of course, a new strap does not alone transform a flip-flop into a serious outdoor contender. But don’t worry; Bedrock has a lot more where that came from.

Flop no more

While the strap is an extremely handy and genuinely significant improvement on this classic sandal design, the real star of the show lies beneath the foot. It’s the sole and outsole that really elevate this from solely casual (pun intended) to genuinely capable.

Slide your feet into a pair of these bad boys, and you’re going to notice that they hug your toes. That’s because they feature a supportive 3D+ footbed that helps lock your foot in without tying them down. A more contoured fit means less slippage.

Flip them over and things get even more exciting. The underside of the Rockhounds are chunky, treaded Vibram outsoles. That means they can make quick work of uneven terrain and even offer better grip when things get soggy. As demonstrated by the brand’s model, you can even run in them with far less fear of them flipping and flopping off.

The Rockhound will be available in three distinct colorways at launch. There will also be a special Nubuck leather edition for those who want a bit more upscale refinement out of their footwear.
