Everybody knows Crocs for its clunky yet comfortable foam clogs. The brand has been a consistent presence in the footwear and fashion industries for nearly a quarter of a century.

And it doesn’t look to be going anywhere soon, if its consistent launches, like its recent Crocs Echo Ro II, are any indication.

However, one of the brand’s best-kept secrets is an unassuming, underrated mainstay called the Crocs Bistro Pro LiteRide Work Clog, which just got a stealthy new edition.

While they still look mostly like Crocs, there are some significant alterations to this clog.

Crocs … pot?

While Crocs were originally designed as deck shoes (yes, really), they first caught on in the service industry, and they’re still a staple therein. In fact, they were so popular amongst line cooks in particular that the brand built the Bistro Pro LiteRide Work Clog specifically for that venue.

However, this is not just a simple rebrand of an existing shoe; it’s a complete reimagining. It bears roughly the same overall shape as a Classic Clog, the brand’s most popular silhouette, but with some significant alterations.

Not only do these Crocs lack the iconic perforated upper (a safety feature, in this case), but they’re also much more low-profile than standard Classic Clogs.
Crocs

For starters, there are no perforations whatsoever. This is, in fact, a safety feature, as those Jibbitz-friendly holes would allow dangerous things like boiling oil to hit the wearer’s foot. That’s a major no-no for kitchen wear.

Second, the back strap is different. While the one on the Classic Clogs is a bit looser and more casual, this one is adjustable and features a nylon strap, so the wearer can better secure the clogs on their feet. Nobody wants to be walking a pot of chili from a back burner to a serving station when their footwear slips off; that’s a recipe for disaster.

That LiteRide insole, on top of being extremely comfortable, is also removable and washable, which is unusual for Crocs.

Sneaky performance

The upper of these clogs is much more low-profile than that of Classic Clogs, which is also a safety feature, as are its perforation-lacking upper and more secure back strap. Because these clogs are less clunky, you’re less likely to trip over yourself or others.

But there are some other sneaky performance features built in. Take the outsole, for example. Unlike the brand’s other footwear, these have a slip-resistant outsole. That means better grip on any terrain, but especially on surfaces where there might be spills (not just the kitchen, but city streets, especially in winter, too).

Another unusual upgrade: a slip-resistant outsole that offers better traction on wet ground.

There’s also an upgrade to the insole. Along with having a more comfortable LiteRide footbed, it’s also removable and washable. As these are intended to be worn by people who are on their feet all day, every day, this helps keep the bacteria and odor in check, which increases their overall longevity.

While the gray version of these clogs has been around for a while, Crocs recently teamed up with Chef Works, a company that specializes in gear for culinary and hospitality workers, to offer a new blacked-out version. Beyond the color and co-branding, however, they remain unchanged.

If you spend a lot of time on your feet, especially at work, there are plenty of reasons to consider doing it in these Crocs.
