A crux of that capability, of course, comes from what it has underfoot. That starts with Danner’s Basalt outsole, which features a suite of enlarged lugs that are capable of tackling rocks, sand, dirt, mud and more with ease.

Above that, the boots have a Plyolite midsole offering tremendous comfort and impact absorption. And it works in tandem with the brand’s Terra Force Trail platform, which “combines lightweight cushioning with an exposed TPU arch, giving you added support on uneven ground.”

And its finished off with an Ortholite footbed, crafted from open-cell polyurethane. That means it’s comfy and supportive while also offering excellent air circulation and heat dissipation.

Put simply, this boot can go anywhere and do anything, and it will keep you comfortable the whole time.

Off-road capabilities are only half of the equation. If the boot doesn’t have an upper that can handle the same rigors, you won’t make it very far. Thankfully, that’s no issue with the Radical 451.

The chief construction is a combination of full-grain leather (which is put through six tests to ensure its quality) and flexible, durable nylon in the spots where you need some give. It also has an abrasion-resistant PU-coated toe cap and heel for extra durability.

And the whole thing benefits from a Danner Dry waterproof barrier, ensuring your toes will stay dry even when the weather takes a turn.

Best of all, the shoe is a part of Danner’s Recraftable system, meaning the boots can be taken apart and repaired time and time again, granting them a far longer lifespan than they might otherwise have.
