Few knife brands can lay claim to well over a century of existence and continued cultural relevance, but few brands have the history or experience of Chambéry, Savoie, France-based Opinel.

The 136-year old brand just announced a new collection of outdoor-focused knives that blend contemporary tech with the brand’s heritage aesthetic … none more so than the standout Néo7 Alpine Folding Knife, which boasts ultralight utility and an equally light price tag.

Slim superstar

The recently released Néo7 Alpine Folding Knife is the embodiment of what makes Opinel great: timeless design, French manufacturing, a practical modern look and of course, wallet-friendly price.

Developed in collaboration with elite instructors from Chamonix’s National School of Skiing and Mountaineering (ENSA), this ultralight knife is purpose-built for mountaineering, backcountry skiing and technical alpine pursuits.

The lightweight knife weighs in at just 1.45 ounces and sports a 3.25-inch serrated blade and 7.25-inch overall length.

That blade is made using stainless steel, offering no-nonsense functionality. The tapered tip of the blade pulls double-duty as a mini scraper or quick screwdriver in a pinch.

Opinel’s proprietary Opiflex locking mechanism provides smooth, intuitive handling, holding the blade securely in place during use.

Perhaps the most unexpected feature on the minimalist folder is its ability to function as a compact screwdriver, thanks to its integrated ¼” bit holder.

This makes it an ideal tool to have on hand for quick gear repairs, adjustments, tightening jobs and more.

A lanyard hole offers easier carry on the go, while a built-in 100-decibel whistle could be your last best hope of getting help in an emergency situation.
