Get ready to put some AI in your mouth. Colgate just announced its newest smart electric toothbrush, hum by Colgate, and it's one of the most affordable options in the smart toothbrush space, starting at $50.
Hum, which comes in rechargeable ($70) and AAA battery-powered models ($50), uses smart sensors to track teeth-brushing habits like frequency, duration and coverage. Through AI and an app, the toothbrush will recommend adjustments to your brushing style to increase the efficacy of your oral hygiene. The toothbrush can store up to 10 days of brushing data before syncing up to the app to log information. If you have an iPhone, you can add your oral health to the Health app for a more well-rounded health and wellness tracker.
Compared to other smart toothbrushes on the market — such as the Sonicare DiamondClean Smart 9300 ($200) and Oral-B Pro 7000 ($154) — Hum is a fraction of the price with similar features. It's notably better than the Colgate E1 ($100), the brand's original smart toothbrush, which lacks Hum's personalization. Like the E1, Hum rewards brushers for their oral hygiene — consistent brushing helps users earn "smile points" to spend on the companion app on replacement brush heads and third-party merchandise.
You can purchase Hum now on Colgate's website or pre-order it on Amazon, which will ship September 13.
