2017 is shaping up to be Ikea’s year. Its products continue to get better-looking and more function driven, it made waves with the release of its first bicycle, it acquired on-demand handyman service Taskrabbit, and now, its long-awaited and much-hyped collaboration with contemporary Danish design studio Hay has officially launched.
Dubbed Ypperlig, Swedish for “excellent,” the series is comprised of modern, functional basics — an antidote to the utilitarian starter pieces found in apartments across the globe. The collection, consisting of more than 60 items, features bare-bones wooden furniture with a clean, stained-ash veneer, injection-molded (read: assembly-free!) chairs and powder-coated mirrors and task lamps. But it’s the updated Frakta shopping bag that will likely be a bestseller. See the full collection here, and find five minimal, low-cost pieces to inject new energy into tired spaces below.
