Back in February, a mesmerizing little flat track motorcycle made headlines thanks to its jaw-dropping looks and specs.

Built to compete at the Flat Track World Championships, the Picasso OMT450c is the sort of streamlined carbon-fiber unicorn you can’t help but admire from afar.

Fast-forward a few months, and you can not only admire this unique beast, you can actually buy and ride the damn thing.

So what exactly is it? The brainchild of Picasso Engineering founder Stefano Picasso, the five-gear bike makes 55 horsepower while weighing a mere 220 pounds.

The engine is a 450cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke yanked from a Honda CRF450R that is Euro 5+ compliant, with three selectable engine maps plus traction control.

The bike features a modular frame system called DAST (short for Dynamic Adaptive Stiffness Technology), which combines carbon fiber and 7075-T6 alloy junctions, enabling quick tweaks between races.

Meticulously designed with learnings from the 660 LMS (an equally bonkers carbon fiber car the team built a few years ago), the frame boasts a streamlined flat track aesthetic that strikes the ideal balance of lightness, strength and performance.

Developed with BartFactory, the wheels maximize responsiveness while minimizing weight, while a custom oversized radiator optimizes airflow and a Radial Clutch slipper clutch reduces rear-wheel lock-up during downshifts and improves control on corners.

Custom-made by QD Exhaust, the full titanium exhaust system boosts power delivery while shaving yet more weight.

The suspension is fully adjustable, and a series of CNC-machined parts boost rigidity, reliability and dynamic response.

All of which signals the sort of high-performance race bike that we average citizens normally come nowhere near.

However, an Italian outfit called RedMoto is making it possible to procure one for yourself.

The 220-pound figure applies to the race bike; a street-legal version would presumably put on a little weight thanks to, you know, lights and mirrors and a license plate.

Known for building race bikes based on Honda motos, RedMoto lists the OMT450c for sale on its website.

With any luck, a street-legal OMT450s STRADALE will eventually follow. Fingers crossed.

Availability and pricing

The Picasso OMT450c is now available for pre-order. No price is listed, which puts this one squarely in the “if you have to ask” category.
