There are two ways to approach everyday carry — the first and arguably less-concerned is the whatever-bag-gets-the-job-done method, and the second is the more-tactical whatever-bag-can-handle-any-scenario approach. Triple Aught Design’s new FAST Pack Scout Special Edition caters to the latter of these two.
TAD’s original FAST Pack Scout is a smaller 15-liter backpack that emphasizes the company’s system of modular customization, enabling the bag to adapt to a range of needs and uses with a variety of add-on pouches and inserts. The thinking behind the Scout and its larger counterparts within the FAST Series is a combination of military design and function drawn from mountaineering equipment. The result is a bag that’s adept in those scenarios and many more.
The Special Edition improves upon the Scout’s original design by re-skinning the construction with a lightweight and super-durable material called Dimension-Polyant X50, a sailcloth material made by hydrostatically bonding 500-denier Cordura nylon to X-Pac ripstop polyester. That’s a mouthful of jargon, but it dissolves down to a bag that’s tear- and abrasion-resistant and fully waterproof. Not only that, but it comes in a winter camo pattern that looks awesome in any environment.
