Strava’s Latest Update Makes It Easy to Mix Up Your Running Route

This new tool from Strava makes it easy to plot out all your running and cycling routes.

The beauty of heading out on a run or a ride is that you can walk out your front door and go. However, when you want to know exactly how far you’ve gone or need to get to a specific location, the planning gets a little wavy. And forget about using Google Maps to set a route in a new city — we’ve all mapped out new routes only to get stuck at every stop light.

Strava’s newest update, Route Builder for Mobile, wants to solve for that. The app lets you drag your finger around your phone screen and automatically creates a well-traveled path for you, using the data saved from the millions of activities logged on the app. While the Strava app is free, you must have the Summit membership ($3 a month) to use this new feature.

Route Builder for Mobile is still in beta mode but it’s already a significant update to the route planning apps available to athletes. For runners, Map My Run is one of the only free sites and apps but it forces you to log a route point by point, meaning you have to budget in time for that before every long run. Download the Strava app for mobile with a Summit membership to start testing Route Builder for Mobile now.
