Having seen literally dozens of Kickstarter-funded jackets claim to be game-changers, only to fall short or not even launch at all, we’re inclined to be a bit skeptical of such products. But dammit, LiteTravel’s SMOL Jacket — which has raised more than 20 times it’s $9,500 funding goal with six weeks to go — looks pretty promising.
That’s because, unlike so many others, its creators realize that a great everyday jacket doesn’t have to solve all your problems: it just has to be light, packable, weather-resistant and warm. Toward that end, LiteTravel kept things refreshingly simple. The SMOL jacket weighs about two pounds, packs down to the size of a soda can, resists wind and water and rocks recycled Thermolite insulation.
SMOL still manages to stand out with some versatility: a vest and jacket combo zip together, and it’s reversible, giving you a total of six ways to wear. But beyond that, its most noteworthy features are a hood, zippers, a travel pouch and… two pockets. For 90 percent of your daily activities, do you really need much more?
The SMOL Jacket’s highest pledge level is a very reasonable $129, and it has an estimated delivery of May 2020.
