Thanks to its combination of casual good looks, simple functionality and relatively low price, Böker’s Atlas has become one of the brand’s most beloved staples.

How else do you explain the fact that right now, more than two dozen varieties of the nameplate are available?

The newest addition to the bountiful Atlas family is also the largest.

In an effort to give its fans even more of a good thing, Böker just dropped a larger version.

In true German fashion, its moniker could not be more on the nose. Meet the Böker Plus Atlas Backlock Big.

Big is beautiful

Let’s cut to the chase: while the classic Atlas boasts a blade measuring 2.95 inches, the Big’s blade is 3.54 inches, making it well over half an inch longer.

With 3.54 inches of cold steel at your disposal, no everyday task is too big.

The embiggening no doubt boosts the knife’s capability to take on larger tasks and even some outdoor projects.

The shape and materials remain the same, a drop-point silhouette made of Swedish 12C27 steel with a lovely satin finish.

The overall length of the knife is a considerable 8.23 inches, 1.62 inches longer than the standard Atlas.

This material, combined with Asian manufacturing, is a big factor in the relatively low cost of the knife, as at $70, it is just $10 more than the even more affordable Atlas.

Low cost does not mean cheap, however, as 12C27 still offers above-average corrosion resistance, durability and sharpening ease, and every Böker knife must meet a standard of precision that’s quite high.

The classic backlock is both low maintenance and reliable, securely holding the knife open and closed.

The aforementioned simplicity also helps keep costs (and maintenance) low, with a nail nick in the blade aiding two-handed deployment and a basic but sturdy backlock holding it securely in place.

Complementing the business end is an ergonomically shaped stainless steel handle with an attractive stonewashed finish.

As you can see here, the ergonomic scales are large enough for the handle to be a real handful.

Despite the bigger size, the knife remains relatively light at 3.14 ounces, while the lanyard hole and reversible tip-up clip ensure that pocket carry remains realistic.
