The blade (or at least a primitive predecessor) has been called “mankind’s oldest invention.” And yet, it has remained among our most valuable creations to this day.

That said, not all modern knives honor traditional knifemaking in ways that are specifically definable.

That’s not the case for the Böker Plus Overnighter, which combines classic looks with a genuinely modern construction. It really is the best of both worlds.

Scandinavian style

There’s no doubt that the Overnighter owes its styling to classic Scandinavian knifemaking. Even a cursory glance at this fixed blade when compared to, say, a classic Norwegian design speaks to this connection.

That is most clearly evident in the handle. The scales of this knife are made from burl wood (an abnormal, knobby pattern that resembles swirls and waves rather than traditional rings).

Not only is it stunning, but it’s also a classic stylistic element of traditional outdoor knives, especially those from Europe.

That look is also bolstered by the full-tang blade’s texture. Beyond the machining, the steel has a textured pattern that, while not actually hand-hammered, gives the same impression as hand-hammered steel.

While the styling is a huge part of what makes this knife special, it’s the overall construction and silhouette that bring it into the modern day and make for a formidable outdoor cutting tool.

Bushcraft bad boy

The Overnighter’s blade is crafted from D2 steel, a classic workhorse material with high carbon and chromium content, commonly used in industrial settings. Put plainly, it’s incredibly strong, durable and can take a beating.

The knife’s strength is also bolstered by its full-tang design, meaning the blade steel is unbroken from the tip to the butt of the handle, limiting potential weak points. The steel is also incredibly thick at the spine, further increasing its overall strength.

Its versatility is enhanced by its blade shape and ergonomics. The drop-point blade makes it exceptionally easy to switch back and forth between tough cutting tasks and detail work, and the handle’s ergonomics (especially the finger guard) make it secure and comfortable in your grip.

It even benefits from jimping on the spine, which allows you to exert more pressure down on the lower part of the edge without as much risk of slipping, increasing its overall safety.

The knife also comes with a leather sheath for easier travel.
