“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” These wise, if slightly clichéd, words have been uttered innumerable times, but when it comes to the ongoing partnership between New Balance and District Vision, they’re right on the money.

The boutique running brand and the American athletic footwear behemoth have teamed up for a fifth time, set to release a new shoe that brings together New Balance’s deep roots in running and District Vision’s mindful, Japanese-inspired aesthetic.

Enlightened strides

The DV + NB SC Elite is an ultralight, high-performance running shoe built upon the FuelCell SC Elite platform and clothed in a minimal new design. Same DNA, new looks.

That aforementioned New Balance DNA includes Energy Arc, which combines a full-length carbon plate with strategically-placed midsole voids; the plate lends stiffness to the forefoot, while the voids deliver higher energy storage and therefore, return.

That tech is merged with a responsive PEBA midsole, which also aids energy return, and a high-traction outsole. By pairing advanced tech with its super minimal 7.6 ounce weight, the FuelCell SC Elite provides explosive power, tuned for race-day performance.

While all that high-octane power stays the same, the real update here is on the surface. The new DV + NB SC Elite is available in two calming, zen-like colors: Linen and Pearl Grey.

These subtle hues highlight the shoe’s tactile touches, which include a red contrast stitch at the heel, a nod to traditional Japanese finishing methods, and the suede-accented “N” on the side wall, which is reinforced with red bar tacks for added texture and durability.

Each shoe includes a commemorative, removable co-branded coin medallion (aka trending shoe charm), designed to pay homage to a Japanese good-luck token given to District Vision co-founder Tom Daly before a marathon in 2014.

Availability and pricing
