Way back in 2019, Gerber rocked the outdoor industry by daring to suggest there might be a fireside culinary option better than the almighty spork.

But lo and behold, they were right, as the brand’s versatile, affordable and compact ComplEAT Camping Utensil Set proved capable of so much more than the original spoon/fork hybrid.

The bold breakthrough cracked our GP100 best gear of the year list and spawned a whole family of spinoffs, even as the core ComplEAT product continues to evolve.

Toward that end, Gerber recently reimagined the fundamental fork into its most pocket-friendly form factor yet by leaning on a classic EDC trait: foldability.

Let’s forking go…

But first, a quick recap of what makes the original system so special.

Consisting of a spork-like fork, a spoon, a dual-edged spatula and a tiny multi-tool (for peeling veggies and opening bottles, cans and packages), it ultimately offers 10 camp-friendly functions.

Seven years after changing the game, the original Compleat Utensil Set continues to resonate to this day.

Nesting beautifully into each other, the items occupy minimal space, totaling just 2.3 ounces and even boast a killer app: the little slot at the base of the spatula that holds everything together can also be paired with the fork or spoon to form tongs.

First priced at $28, the ComplEAT Utensil Set can now be had for a still quite reasonable $35.

Made of textured nylon, the Folding Fork opens up 7.4 inches, a mere 0.2 inches shorter than the Compleat Multi-Fork from which it is derived.

Drawing on the ethos of this system, which leans on ingenuity to pack functionality into a compact and affordable form factor, the new ComplEAT Folding Fork does more with less as well.

The hinge at the middle enables it to nearly halve its 7.4-inch open length to just 4.3 inches.

Together with a weight of just 0.58 ounces and a lanyard hole, the fork becomes so pocketable that you could tote it daily and bust it out at any outdoor gathering.

You could even deploy at a shopping center’s food court or other eateries that hand out disposable utensils, sparing the environment of yet more wasted plastic.

But that’s not all, because the fork has a deep, spoon-like basin, meaning that you can totally eat bowl-based food such as oatmeal, soup and yogurt with it.

Meanwhile, the silicone scraping edge enables you to get every last drop of gruel, more effectively move food from one vessel and more easily clear and clean camp dishes.

While it does not transform into tongs, the Folding Fork does boast a pretty cool one-of-a-kind capability: a small “kickstand” lets you set the fork down while eating and smoothly keep the business end off the table or, better yet, the dirt.
