I’ll admit, “fast-fashion retailer releases functional ski jacket” wasn’t on my 2025 bingo card.

But when worlds collide as they have in H&M’s functional new outerwear, I’ll happily concede that getting caught off guard never felt so good.

The H&M Ski Jacket is a style-conscious, surprisingly technical piece of winter-ready outerwear that brings functionality, and unexpected technical chops, to the slopes.

When worlds collide

At just over $200, the Ski Jacket is priced on the wallet-friendly end of the ski jacket spectrum, which makes sense coming from a company known for its affordable fashion.

When you dig into the actual features, you’ll feel even more like you’re getting a lot for a little.

First off, the Ski Jacket is style-forward enough that I would be happy to wear it on and off the slopes, which isn’t something I could say for more endemic, core-coded options that retail for the same price.

By that logic, you could consider this a two-for-one jacket, appropriate for both on- and off-slope wear, which would make it really affordable. And that’s before I’ve even told you about its hidden utility.

H&M’s ski jacket features proprietary synthetic insulation, a durable 100-percent polyester shell, a 100-percent nylon lining in the torso and hood, a weather resistant coating, adjustable hood, pit zips and taped seams — essentially every feature you’d find in more “capable” jackets.

The Ski Jacket with StormMove is waterproof, windproof and breathable … and the earth-toned colorways look sharp, too.

It also boasts a professional-grade safety feature that’s totally unexpected on what’s essentially a fashionable ski jacket: Recco reflectors, which makes the wearer detectable to rescue professionals.

Recco reflectors are part of a system that is a global standard in outdoor search technology, used in more than 900 locations in 32 countries by ski resorts and rescue organizations.

Considering its subtle style, robust feature set and enhanced safety features, two hundred-ish bucks for H&M’s outerwear is a steal.
