It Took Not One, But Two Iconic Brands to Make an All-Season Alpine Pack This Groundbreaking

It may look minimal, but this year-round hauler packs in a ton of innovative tech, while remaining one of the most sustainable bags around.

Two heads are better than one, and in the case of the new collaboration between Osprey and Houdini, it seems two brands are, as well.

Don’t let your eyes glaze over at the news of another brand partnership— stick with me. This isn’t some “let’s slap both our logos on an existing product and call it a collab” kind of deal.

This is a “two of the most respected brands in the outdoors create totally new product” situation, and the new-new I’m referring to is the Allt, an exclusive four-season pack designed for hiking, climbing and skiing.

Circular design, redefined

The Allt, named after the Swedish word for “everything,” and designed for skiing, hiking and climbing, certainly strives to live up to its namesake, and I would say the bag accomplishes its goal.

In the Allt, which is available in both 20- and 30-liter options, Osprey brought its technical expertise in pack making to the table, while Houdini brought the sustainability chops: the Allt ’s fabrics, webbing, cord, and foam are made from 100 percent polyester, facilitating streamlined recycling.

Polyester is durable and helps the bag to last longer, but it has other benefits: by crafting critical components of the Allt from the same hardworking material, Osprey and Houdini made it easier to repair the pack, and at the end of its life, recycle it.

In fact, both brands will take the pack back for repurposing once the Allt has reached the end of the line.

Overall, the main fabrics in the Allt contain at least 70 percent recycled content, the liner is 100 percent recycled and the meshes are made from a minimum of 75 percent recycled content.

But wait, there’s more

Continuing the sustainability story, the Allt features bio-based POM buckles, made from captured agricultural methane, and the bag’s plastic and metal parts are removable and replaceable.

I’ve made it clear that the bag is sustainable — and that’s great. But there’s a lot to talk about when it comes to the Allt’s functionality.

In true Osprey fashion, high-performance materials and feature-rich design take center stage in the minimalist Allt. Lightweight and waterproof Dimension Polyant RX36 face fabric will stand up to the rigors of the alpine.

Where it counts, quick-drying and breathable CCubed foam wicks moisture from body. A padded hipbelt with gear loops maximizes utility. The 30 liter version sees an external cinch paired with internal roll-top, which keeps weather out, and a stash pocket hidden under the roll-top adds to clever storage options.

Deployable cinch closures and modular carry options for skis or technical gear — like the A-frame ski carry and external ice tool attachment — maintain the Allt’s utility-driven design.

The multi-use internal compartment can be used for snow tools or a reservoir, depending on whether you’re skiing, hiking or going on an entirely different adventure.

Both the compact 20 liter version and 30 liter size built for technical pursuits are available in two colorways: “Sandstorm” and “Tribe Blue.”

Availability and pricing

The exclusive Allt 20 Liter and 30 liter are both available on Osprey’s official website now, retailing for $350 and $400, respectively.
